Added Sugar

Added sugar is sugar put into a mix or shake, listed on the panel separately from total carbohydrate. In hydration, a small amount of glucose genuinely aids sodium and water absorption; a large amount turns an "electrolyte" drink into a soft drink with minerals. The number is right there on the label, and it is one of the fastest ways to sort a serious mix from a candied one. We read it on every electrolyte and shake product and call out when the sugar is doing more work than the electrolytes.
