Prebiotic Fiber

Prebiotic fibers — inulin and chicory root are the common ones — are fermentable fibers that feed gut bacteria, and they turn up in shakes, bars, and "gut health" products. Two factual notes belong together: they are a legitimate fiber source, and introduced too quickly or in large amounts they are a frequent cause of gas and bloating because that fermentation is the point. We report their presence and dose; the "gut health" benefit claims that ride on them get no endorsement from us, only a factual mention that the fiber is there.
