Soluble vs Insoluble Fiber

Soluble fiber dissolves in water and forms a gel that slows digestion (oats, psyllium, beans); insoluble fiber adds bulk and speeds transit (wheat bran, vegetable skins). Most whole foods contain both, while supplements often lead with one type, so the label is worth reading if you are targeting a specific effect. We describe the distinction factually and report which type a supplement emphasizes; what mix suits a given digestive situation is individual, and anything beyond general information belongs with a clinician.
